Logan Bell, Ryan Cleveland, and Max Thomas all drove in three runs each as the Stephens County Indians beat the Johnson Knights 12-5 Friday at the Reservation in Region 8-AAAA play.
Stephens County had a 9–0 lead going into the fifth inning when the Knights touched starter Dustin McCall for four runs.
The Indians scored two runs in the first inning, four in the second inning, and three more in the fourth inning. Following a Johnson run in the top of the sixth inning, the Indians pushed across three insurance runs in their half of the sixth.
McCall went the first five innings, scattering six hits and striking out five while walking four. Cody Helgeland, making his first varsity appearance of the season, went the final two innings and gave up a run on two hits.
Sophomore Lane Chancey, making his first varsity start for Johnson, went three innings and gave up nine runs. Joel Munoz closed out the game for the Knights.
Stephens County is now 10-3 overall on the season and 5-1 in Region 8-AAAA action. Johnson is 3-10 overall and 0-6 in the region.
