Indians Sweep Monroe Area on Diamond

The Stephens County Indian baseball team swept its season series from Monroe Area with a 4-1 victory over the Purple Hurricanes Thursday in Monroe.

The Indians took a 2-0 lead in the first inning and never looked back.

Evan Rumsey pitched a complete game, allowing just one run and seven hits while striking out three and walking one.

Rumsey also had an RBI double at the plate.

Ben Cleveland also had a solo home run and an RBI single for the Indians, while Matthew Henson recorded an RBI when he was hit by a pitch with the bases loaded.

With the win, Stephens County improves to 16-5 overall and 9-3 in region play.

Monroe Area falls to 3-16 overall and 3-9 in the region.

The Indians return home today to face Eastside.

First pitch is set for 5:55 p.m.
