Indians Sweep Johnson in Region Baseball

The Stephens County Indian baseball team explodes offensively to sweep the Johnson Knights in Region 8-AAAA baseball action.

Stephens County sent 11 men to the plate in the top of the second inning and scored six runs on the way to a 13-1, five-inning win over Johnson Wednesday in Oakwood.

The Indians jumped out with two runs in the first inning.

Then in the second, the Indians used hits and walks, along with a number of Knight errors, to put up the six-spot and extend their lead to 8-0.

Stephens County then added one run in the third inning, three runs in the fourth, and one in the fifth.

Caleb Gastley had three hits and a couple of RBI’s to pace the Indian attack.

Konnor Quick, Evan Rumsey, Ben Cleveland, Houston Mullinax, Kenneth Brock, and Tristen Powell all each had RBIs as well for Stephens County as 10 different Indians scored runs.

Johnson got its only run in the bottom of the fourth inning when Joel Munoz tripled and scored on a Josh Henderson sacrifice fly.

Tristen Powell threw three shutout innings to get the win for the Indians, while Davis McCall pitched the final two innings.

Payden Grizzle took the loss for Johnson, allowing six runs in 1 1/3 innings.

The win moves the Indians to 9-5 overall and 4-2 in Region 8-AAAA.

Stephens County returns home Friday to host North Hall.
