The home opener for the Stephens County Indians and Lady Indians was a successful one, capped with wins for both basketball teams.
After a slow start, the Lady Indians outscored the Lady Raiders of Habersham Central 23-6 in the third period, then held on for a 38-32 win.
It was the second win of the season for the Stephens County girls.
Keocia Walker led the Lady Indians with 14 points and Lexie Cash contributed nine points.
Six-foot freshman Lainey Gosnell led Habersham Central with 19 points.
The loss dropped the Lady Raiders to 1-1 on the season.
In the boys’ game, Habersham’s Bennett Black missed a three-pointer at the buzzer and Stephens County held on for a 62-59 win.
Josh Slate had 16 points to lead the Indians and Chris Jones contributed 14 points.
The Stephens County boys are now 1-1 on the year.
Stephens County is off until December 3rd, when the Lady Indians and Indians both travel to face Chestatee.
