Indians Split With White Co. In Hoops

Tyriq Combs scored 17 first half points, including five three-pointers, and Tay Jones scored 13 of his 19 points in the second half to lead the Stephens County Indian boys to their first region win of the year, beating White County 65-58 Tuesday at the Currahee Arena.

Up three with 13 seconds to go, Jones hit two free throws to stymie White County’s comeback attempt.

Deandre Singleton added 12 points for the Indian boys.

Moving to the girls’ contest, Paige Thomas scored 23 of White County’s 39 points to lead the Lady Warriors to a 39-34 win over the Stephens County Lady Indians.

Lexie Cash led the Lady Indians with 11 points, all in the first half, and Mya Cleveland added nine points for the Lady Indians.

With the win, the Stephens County boys move to 1-4 in Region 8-AAAA and 6-15 overall.

The loss dropped the Lady Indians 2-3 in the region and 10-11 overall.

Stephens County returns to action Friday at home against North Oconee at 7 p.m.
