The Stephens County Indian football team will turn its attention to the regular season after scrimmaging St. Pius Friday night.
St. Pius scored the first time it had the ball Friday night as the Golden Lions outscored the Indians 27-7 in the first three quarters with varsity teams on the field.
Both schools’ junior varsity teams scored once in the fourth quarter.
St. Pius running back Dalton Wilson had touchdown runs of 1 yard and 10 yards to lead the Golden Lions.
Meanwhile, St. Pius starting quarterback Joey Connors was 5 for 5 passing for 128 yards, including a 60-yard touchdown pass to Jack Pelt.
Connors also had a 23-yard touchdown run for St. Pius.
Mason Long scored Stephens County’s varsity touchdown, running it in from two yards out.
Long, who plays both quarterback and wide receiver for the Indians, carried nine times for 50 yards while catching two passes and completing two of three pass attempts.
Meanwhile, Jai Brown had 78 yards rushing on six carries and Sapario Reese added 74 yards rushing on 12 carries for the Indians.
With the junior varsity squads on the field, Joshua Pruitt had a 42-yard touchdown run for the Indians.
Stephens County will open the season on August 30 at home against FranklinCounty.
