Indians, Lady Indians Both Fall to Buford

Stephens County basketball leaves the Wolves’ Den with a pair of losses.

Friday, the Indians and Lady Indians both lost in Region 8-AAAA action to Buford on the road.

In the boys’ game, Stephens County had a seven point lead late in the third quarter, but Buford outscored the Indians 30-10 the rest of the way to win 62-49.

Tay Jones led the Indians with 17 points, while DeAndre Singleton added 12.

Tre Hansbrough scored 28 points for Buford and Taylor Mills added 23 points.

Moving to the girls’ game, Buford used a press in the first half to pull away early on the way to a 59-25 win over the Lady Indians.

Nikelsha Owens and Lexie Cash each had six points for Stephens County.

Camille Anderson scored 19 to lead the Lady Wolves, and Corey Staples added 12 points.

The loss drops the Lady Indians to 9-10 overall and 2-2 in the region, while the boys are now 5-14 overall and 0-4 in the region.

Both Stephens County basketball teams are back in action tonight at home against Elbert County starting at 6 p.m.
