The Stephens County Indian football team returns to action tonight against one of the highest-ranked teams in the state.
Stephens County will host Monroe Area at the Reservation.
The Indians come into the game with a 3-2 overall record and a 1-1 record in Region 8-AAAA, having had last week off.
In their last game two weeks ago, Stephens County was shut out for the first time since 2001 in a 17-0 loss to Chestatee.
Meanwhile, Monroe Area enters the game 5-0 overall and 2-0 in Region 8-AAAA. The Purple Hurricanes are ranked fourth in AAAA in the state, according to the Atlanta Journal Constitution. They were also off last week.
Stephens County Defensive Backs Coach Kentrell Curry said the off week helped the Indians.
“It gave us an opportunity to get our legs back underneath us and take the first part of the season and correct some things,” said Curry.
Curry said they have also had a good week of practice preparing for what he calls a very good Monroe Area football team.
Kick-off from the Reservation tonight is at 7:30 p.m. Tonight is also Band and Auxiliary Senior Night for Stephens County High School.
Coverage tonight on AM 630 WNEG starts at 5:30 p.m. with the Indian Tailgate Show. Then, it is Coach’s Corner at 7 p.m. and pre-game coverage from the stadium gets underway at 7:15 p.m.
In other Region 8-AAAA action this Friday, Lanier hosts Eastside, Lumpkin County is at Madison County, and Chestatee visits Walnut Grove.
Elsewhere around the area tonight, Franklin County hosts North Oconee, Hart County travels to Oconee County, and Habersham Central will visit Meadowcreek.
