Indians Host Habersham Tonight

The battle of Currahee Mountain will take place on the football field tonight in Toccoa.

Stephens County will host undefeated Habersham Central in the rivalry game this evening at the Reservation.

The Indians enter this game with a 2-1 record after last week’s 41-7 win over Flowery Branch.

Meanwhile, Habersham Central is 3-0 on the year after hanging on to beat Franklin County last week, 21-14.

The Raiders are off to their best start in years, with their three victories this season equaling the number of wins they have had for the last four seasons combined as Habersham Central went 3-37 in that time frame.

These two teams last met in the regular season in 2013, with the Indians winning that game by a score of 49-14.

Stephens County Assistant Coach Kirk Rogers said that the Indians need to be ready for a rivalry game that means a lot to both sides, even though the teams have not played for a couple of years in the regular season.

“Play hard and don’t let this, just because they are neighbors, take anything away from it,” said Rogers. “It is a big deal and we have emphasized how important it is. It is a game in our schedule and we have to take it serious.”

Kick-off from the Reservation in Toccoa is set for 7:30 pm.

Coverage on the new 93.1 FM and AM 630 WNEG starts at 5:30 p.m. with the Indian Tailgate Show. Coach’s Corner starts at 7 p.m. and pre-game coverage from the stadium starts at 7:15 p.m.

Looking elsewhere around the area this evening, Franklin County visits Elbert County, Hart County is at Blessed Trinity, and Banks County hosts Union County.

In other Region 8-AAAA action tonight, Madison County hosts Monroe Area, Oconee County is at Cedar Shoals, Jefferson visits Flowery Branch, North Oconee travels to face Clarke Central, and St. Pius is at Greater Atlanta Christian.
