The Stephens County Indian football team will look to take another step towards a state playoff berth tonight.
The Indians host Eastside on Senior Night at the Reservation.
Stephens County is 6-2 on the season overall and 3-2 in the region. Last week, the Indians beat Lanier 27-18 at home with Chaz Thornton running for more than 200 yards and two touchdowns, while Tomas Colbert added 100 yards receiving, a touchdown catch, and a touchdown run.
Meanwhile, Eastside is 6-2 overall and 4-1 in the region after defeating Walnut Grove last week 55-20.
These two teams last met in 2009, with Eastside scoring a 30-27 win. Thornton did have more than 180 yards rushing in that game with two touchdown runs.
One of last night’s “Crunchtime” guests, Stephens County JV Football Coach Greg McCall, said Eastside has a strong team.
“They have a lot of athletes and do a very good job on special teams,” said McCall.
Kick-off tonight from the Reservation is 7:30 p.m.
Coverage begins at 5:30 p.m. on AM 630 WNEG with the Indian Tailgate Show. Coach’s Corner begins at 7 p.m. with pre-game coverage getting underway at 7:15 p.m.
