The Stephens County Indian football team will look to stay unbeaten on the season tonight at home in a region game with the Chestatee War Eagles.
The Indians moved to 4-0 on the year with a dominating 61-20 Homecoming win last week over Walnut Grove to open Region 8-AAAA play.
Meanwhile, Chestatee scored on a fourth down in double overtime then kicked the extra point to beat Eastside in its region opener 57-56.
Chestatee is 2-1 overall and both teams are 1-0 in region play.
Last year, these two teams met in Hall County and Stephens County won 28-0 behind 240-plus rushing yards and three touchdowns from Chaz Thornton.
While last week’s scores may indicate some offensive fireworks tonight, Stephens County Tight Ends Coach David Gibbs said that Chestatee’s defense will pose a challenge for the Indians’ offense, especially the offensive line.
“They do a lot of stunting with their linebackers,” said Gibbs. “They can cause you some headaches and give you some losses on plays. We will have to do a good job of down blocking and stopping penetration.”
Kick-off tonight from the Reservation is set for 7:30 p.m.
Coverage begins at 5:30 p.m. on AM 630 WNEG with the Indian Tailgate Show. Coach’s Corner starts at 7 p.m. and live pre-game coverage from the Reservation begins at 7:15 p.m.
In other Region 8-AAAA action tonight, Monroe Area travels to Lanier, while Eastside visits Madison County and Lumpkin County travels to take on Walnut Grove.
Elsewhere around northeast Georgia, Franklin County will visit Hart County and Habersham Central hosts Peachtree Ridge.
