Indians “Fense” In Bulldogs
The Stephens County Indians defeated the Hart County Bulldogs Friday night in Hartwell, 23 to 6.
The Indians’ offense did not score, but a safety and two turnovers returned for touchdowns along with a punt return for a touchdown accounted for Stephens County’s scoring.
Hart County’s only score came on their first possession of the game on a 70-yard touchdown run by Willis Verdell.
The Indians’ defense got a safety on Hart County with 2:13 left in the first quarter to make the score 6 to 2.
The defense would then give the Indians the lead with 2:10 left in the third quarter when Indian cornerback Malik Feaster stepped in front of a Crew Phillips pass and returned it 65 yards for a touchdown.
After the Luke Pearson extra point, it was 9 to 6, Stephens County.
The Indians’ defense forced a Hart County punt on the next possession, and Brandon Wheeler returned it 72 yards for another Stephens County touchdown.
The final score came with 2:38 left in the game when Cole Beitzel recovered a Hart County fumble and returned it 45 yards for a touchdown.
Stephens County improves to 4 and 1 on the season. They will be off next week before starting region play on Friday, October 7th, when they travel to St. Pius.
Hart County remains winless at 0 and 5.
The Bulldogs open their region schedule next Friday as they host Franklin County.
