Indians End Baseball Season With Loss

The Stephens County Indian baseball team ends its season with a loss.

Wednesday night, the Indians and Buford Wolves were tied at 0 headed to the bottom of the third.

However, Buford scored four times in the third and then exploded for nine runs in the bottom of the fourth inning on the way to a 13-0 win over Stephens County in 4 1/2 innings.

Buford’s Clay Dickie threw a no-hitter in the shortened game, striking out six and allowing only a walk to Kooper Briley.

Offensively, Nick Wilhite went 3 for 4 with four RBIs and two runs scored, while his brother Austin Wilhite went 3 for 4 with three runs scored and two RBIs for Buford.

Kent Baldy also had two RBIs for the Wolves, while Griffin Jolliff and Justin Glover also knocked in runs and Brandon Marsh scored three times.

Stephens County ends the 2016 baseball season with a 10-16 overall record and a 6-10 record in Region 8-AAAA.

Meanwhile, Buford went to 23-3 overall with the win and 15-1 in the region.

The Wolves are the Region 8-AAAA baseball champions and will enter next week’s state playoffs as the top seed representing the region.
