Indians Edge War Eagles
The Stephens County Indian baseball team snapped a three-game losing streak in region baseball, but had to hang on to do it, beating Chestatee 5-4 at the Reservation in Toccoa on Monday.
After spotting the War Eagles a run in the top of the third inning, the Indians scored two unearned runs on a throwing error in the bottom of the inning.
Stephens County put together six hits and three runs in the bottom of the fifth inning to take a 5-1 lead.
However, Chestatee struck for three runs in the top of the seventh inning and left the tying run at third to end the game.
Zack Boyd went 6 2/3 innings to get the win, with Dawson Dean getting the final out for the save.
Boyd and Jacob Haddock had RBIs for the Indians, who are now 5-6 in region play.
The two teams play again on Wednesday at 5:55 p.m. at Chestatee High School.
