Indians Defeat St. Pius

The Stephens County Indians kept their baseball playoff hopes alive with a 5-2 win over the St. Pius Golden Lions Thursday night at the Reservation.  Dawson Sorrells went the distance on the mound, scattering six hits and striking out four.

Dylan Huff started the scoring in the bottom of the second inning with a two-run single.  St. Pius got a single run in the fourth inning on a wild pitch.  The game stayed 2-1 until the bottom of the sixth inning. With one out in the inning , Kooper Briley hit his eighth home run of the year over the fence in left field. Following a walk to Bryson Fowler, Cole Beitzel cracked his second home run of the year.

The Golden Lions scored one more run in the top of the seventh with a ground ball-double play.

Stephens County is now 16-13 overall and 6-8 in Region 8-Quad A, and they are tied with St. Pius in the region, who is also at 6-8.

Thursday night was Senior Night, with Kooper Briley, Cole Morgan and Dylan Huff honored in pre-game ceremonies

Game three of the series will be this afternoon at 5pm in Atlanta.  Air time on WNEG Radio will be 4:45PM.
