Indians Clinch #2 In Region 8-AAAA

It is on to the playoffs with a first round game at home for the Stephens County High School football team.

The Indians beat North Oconee on Senior Night at the Reservation Friday night, 35-14, to lock up the second seed out of Region 8-AAAA and a home playoff game this week in the first round.

Stephens County Head Coach Frank Barden said it is great to get a win to end the regular season and earn a home playoff game.

“I am proud we have this opportunity,” said Barden.

It was a close game early as the Indians and Titans were tied at 7 early in the second quarter.

However, Stephens County then reeled off 28 straight points to cruise to the easy victory.

The Indians did their damage Friday night offensively running the football.

A.J. Howard had three rushing touchdowns for Stephens County and Hassan Brown ran for two touchdowns of his own.

With the win, Stephens County improves to 8-2 overall on the season and finishes 4-1 in Region 8-AAAA.

North Oconee ends its season winless at 0-10 overall and 0-5 in the region.

This coming week, Stephens County will host the third seed out of Region 6-AAAA, Heritage of Catoosa.

Also making the playoffs from Region 8-AAAA are Jefferson, Oconee County, and St. Pius.

Jefferson will host Pickens, Oconee County will travel to Northwest Whitfield, and St. Pius will travel to Ridgeland.
