Indian Wrestling Holds Senior Night

Stephens County wrestling goes 1-2 on Senior Night for Wrestling at the Reservation.

Tuesday night, the SCHS wrestling team celebrated its Seniors and Youth wrestlers in a quad match with Riverside Military, Hart County, and Habersham Central.

The Stephens County youth wrestlers were recognized first, with 25 kids led by coaches Leon Walker and Josh Sweat.

Then, Stephens County’s three seniors, Javon Jones, Jake Murray, and Dalton Roberts were recognized.

In the match with Habersham, Stephens County lost 49-24, which Coach Rob Stowe says is somewhat misleading because Stephens had to forfeit three weight classes and give up 18 points due to some injuries.

In the match with Riverside, Stephens County lost a tight match 40-33, which came down to the last match of the evening, which Stephens lost.

In the final match with Hart County, Stephens won 54-21.

On the night, Lee Massey went 2-1, Tyler Edmonds went 2-1, Javon Jones went 2-1, Corey Kindel went 3-0, Jake Murray went 3-0, Jay Stowe went 3-0, Dalton Roberts went 1-1, Eli Alexander went 0-1, Ty Kellar went 1-2, Ryan Hartwell went 1-1, Dylan Defoor went 1-2, Rene Zuniga went 1-2, and Walker Herron went 1-2.

Meanwhile, Coach Stowe also notes that Jake Murray picked up his 100th career win, a rare feat in high school wrestling.
