Indian Football Opens Region Play Tonight

September 20, 2013

The Stephens County Indian football team opens Region 8-AAAA play with a road trip tonight.

Stephens County heads to Walnut Grove to take on the Warriors in the first region game for both teams.

The Indians are looking to bounce back from their first loss of the season last week, a 26-7 defeat at the hands of Hart County that dropped StephensCounty to 2-1 on the season.

Meanwhile, Walnut Grove is 1-2 on the year and looking to win a second game in a row after their 21-9 win over Howard last Friday.

The two teams have met once previously, a 61-20 StephensCounty win at the Reservation last year.

Stephens County Defensive Backs Coach Rocky Fulbright said the Indians will face a Warrior squad that is improved from last year’s team.

“They are much better than last year,” said Fulbright.  “They do about the same things we do on offense.  Defensively, they are very aggressive.  Their running back is very good.”

Kick-off from Walnut Grove tonight is set for 7:30 p.m.

Coverage on AM 630 WNEG begins at 6 p.m. tonight with Tommy Palmer’s “Countdown to Kickoff.”  Coach’s Corner starts at 7 p.m. and pre-game coverage from Walnut Grove starts at 7:15 p.m.

In other action around Region 8-AAAA tonight, Monroe Area visits Lumpkin County, Eastside hosts Chestatee, and Lanier travels to take on Madison County.

Elsewhere in northeast Georgia, Habersham Central hosts Mountain View.  Meanwhile, Franklin County and Hart County are both off this week.
