Indian Boys Stay Unbeaten In Region 8-AAAA Hoops Play

For the second game in a row, the Stephens County Indian boys’ basketball team had to go to overtime, but again, it was worth it.

Tuesday night at the Currahee Arena, the Indians outlasted the Madison County Red Raiders 60-58 in double overtime.

Tay Jones led the Indians with 18 points and Deundra Singleton had 17, while A.J. Curry chipped in with 11 points for Stephens County.

Keith Gantt led the Red Raiders with 16 points, while Jackson Bailey and Golston Gillespie each chipped in 10 points.

The Indians are now 15-4 overall and 3-0 in region play, while Madison county is 2-2 in region play and 12-8 for the season.

In the first game Tuesday night, the Stephens County Lady Indians and the Lady Red Raiders were tied at the end of the third period at 23, but the Madison County girls outscored the Lady Indians 17-12 in the fourth and took home a 40-35 win.

Kentasia Trimier led the Stephens County girls with 14 points.

The Lady Indians are now 6-13 overall and 1-2 in region play.

Both the Indians and Lady Indians are back home on Friday to host Buford.

Tip-off for the girls’ game is 7 p.m. with the boys’ game to follow.
