Indian Basketball Holiday Update

The Stephens County High School basketball teams will start 2016 with a non-region game on Saturday (Jan. 2).

Last week, both the Indians and Lady Indians participated in holiday tournaments on Monday through Wednesday.

On the boys’ side, the Indians won their tournament in Walhalla, South Carolina, sweeping all three games.

In the championship game, the Indians defeated Jackson County by a score of 50-46.

To get to the championship game, Stephens County’s boys beat Easley, South Carolina in the first round by one point, 66-65.

Then the Indians beat Habersham Central in the semi-finals by a 73-51 score.

As for the Lady Indians, they went 2-1 in their tournament at Hartwell.

In their first game, the Lady Indians lost to Westside out of South Carolina, 52-26, on Monday.

However, the Lady Indians bounced back Tuesday and beat Elbert County, 36-23.

The Lady Indians then beat Oglethorpe County on Wednesday, 53-34.

For the season, the Indian boys are 12-3 and the Lady Indians are 5-10.

Saturday, Stephens County travels to Hart County for a non-region basketball doubleheader.

The girls’ game will tip off at 6 p.m. Saturday with the boys’ game to follow.
