Indian Baseball Opens Season With Win

The Indian baseball team opens the season with a win.

Stephens County used four home runs and strong pitching to tame the Franklin County Lions Saturday at the Reservation, 8-2.

Kooper Briley led the way from the leadoff spot for Stephens County, going 3 for 4 at the plate with two solo home runs and three runs scored.

Also, Evan Rumsey had a three-run home run for the Indians and Ben Cleveland added a two-run homer.

Stephens County also got an RBI single from Caleb Gastley.

Tristan Powell went six innings to pick up the win for Stephens County, allowing just two runs and seven hits. Rumsey struck out the side to wrap up the game for the Indians in the seventh.

Franklin County scored its runs on a RBI groundout from Bryson Cornett and an RBI double from Zac Hill.

Cornett also took the loss on the mound for Franklin County, allowing eight runs in four innings. Trent Harris pitched two scoreless innings of relief for Franklin County.

The Indians are now 1-0 on the season and are back in action Monday at 5:30 p.m. at Hart County.
