The Stephens County Indian baseball team will open play in the state AAAA tournament later today.
Stephens County will host Alexander High School in a best-of-three first round baseball playoff series that starts with a doubleheader this afternoon.
The Indians enter the game as the second seed from Region 8-AAAA with a record of 18-5 overall and 13-3 in the region. Stephens County tied for the region title with Eastside, but lost out on the top seed on a tiebreaker.
Alexander High School finished the season as the third seed out of Region 5-AAAA, with an overall record of 17-8 and a region record of 10-4.
Game 1 of the best-of-three series is today at the Reservation. It starts at 4 p.m. and Game 2 will follow about 20 minutes after the end of the first game.
If the two teams split today’s doubleheader, Game 3 is scheduled for Saturday at noon at the Reservation.

The winner of this series will play either Region 7-AAAA champion Northwest Whitfield or Region 6-AAAA fourth-place team Grady in the second round.
In other state playoff baseball action involving Region 8-AAAA, top seed Eastside is hosting Troup County, third seed Walnut Grove is at Carrollton, and fourth seed Lanier is at Columbus.
Elsewhere in the area, Franklin County is hosting a first-round AAA state baseball playoff series today against Sonoraville. Franklin County finished second in Region 8-AAA.
