Indian Baseball Comes From Behind To Earn Doubleheader Split

Stephens County splits a high school baseball doubleheader Saturday at the Reservation.

After losing the first game to Rabun County, the Indians scored four runs in the bottom of the seventh to come from behind and beat Habersham Central, 6-5.

Bryson Fowler won the game with a walk-off single with two out, scoring Tristen Powell.

The Indians also tied the game with two out in the bottom of the seventh, as Powell had singled to score Jacob Haddock, who ran for Dylan Simpson after Simpson walked with the Indians trailing, 5-4.

Stephens County had trailed 5-2 to start the bottom of the seventh, but Ben Cleveland doubled with one out and then Evan Rumsey walked.

A passed ball allowed Cleveland to score and Rumsey scored on an RBI groundout by Caleb Gastley to cut the Raider lead to one.

Gastley had two RBIs for Stephens County, while Cleveland had three doubles and two runs scored.

Mason Long got the win in relief of starter Evan Rumsey for the Indians.

Taking the loss for Habersham Central was Jay Nix, who was the third pitcher to relieve Raider starter Trevor Bell.

Jarrad Jones had two RBIs for the Raiders, while Payton Dalton had an RBI and scored two runs.

The Indians are now 3-1 on the season.

They are back in action today at 5:30 p.m. at home against Banks County.
