Authorities have released the name of the person killed in a fatal accident over the weekend in Toccoa.
According to Toccoa Police Chief Tim Jarrell, the accident occurred at 10:20 a.m. Saturday in the Wal-Mart parking lot, near the Verizon retailer.
Jarrell said a 2011 Kia Optima driven by 67-year-old Patricia Wheeler Smith of Toccoa was pulling out of the Wal-Mart parking lot, when it collided with a 1986 Honda motorcycle driven by 28-year-old Joshua Wayne Graham of Toccoa that was heading toward Memorial Drive.
Stephens County Coroner Chris Stephens said Graham was transported by Stephens County EMS to Stephens County Hospital, where he was pronounced dead.
Stephens said that as is normal in such cases, Graham’s body was taken to the Georgia Bureau of Investigation Crime Lab for an autopsy.
Jarrell said his department called in the Georgia State Patrol to assist in the investigation.
That investigation continues and Jarrell said charges are pending.
This fatal accident was in addition to fourteen fatal crashes reported on Georgia highways this Labor Day holiday weekend by state officials.
The Georgia Department of Public Safety says 14 people were killed in those 14 reported wrecks between 6 p.m. Friday and midnight Monday.
Last year, 13 fatalities were reported on Georgia highways during the Labor holiday travel period.
