Hydrant Flushing Underway in Toccoa

The city of Toccoa is starting a period of hydrant flushing throughout the water system.

Beginning last night, the City of Toccoa Water Department started opening fire hydrants throughout the system.

City officials said this “free-flow” operation flushes out possible sediment build-up and harmless impurities.

Officials said that as a result of hydrant flushing, water customers may experience turbid water and perhaps a temporary reduction in water pressure.

The city said that in an effort to minimize inconvenience, it will be opening hydrants between the hours of 9 p.m. and 5 a.m.

The hydrant flushing is scheduled to continue from now through Thursday, October 30.
