Hydrant Flushing Underway in Toccoa

Hydrant flushing is underway throughout the city of Toccoa water system.

The City of Toccoa Water Department said it will be opening fire hydrants throughout the system over the next few weeks.

According to city officials, the hydrant flushing began on Sunday and will continue through Thursday, October 27.

It will take place between the hours of 9 p.m. and 5 a.m. each night.

The city said it is being done then to minimize inconvenience.

Hydrant flushing is a “free-flow” operation that flushes out possible sediment build-up and harmless impurities.

City officials said that as a result of hydrant flushing, water customers may experience turbid water and perhaps a temporary reduction in water pressure.

Anyone who has questions about the hydrant flushing process should call the city of Toccoa at 706-886-8451.
