Humane Shelter Receiving Matching Grant for Donations This Month

A special grant program is being offered to the Toccoa-Stephens County Humane Shelter this month.

Shelter Director Jeff Roberts said that an organization, Fix Georgia’s Pets, is offering to match donations made to the shelter between now and November 30 up to $5,000 in total donations.

“Anyone who makes a donation between now and the end of the month, we have an organization that is going to match it 100 percent,” said Roberts. “They are even going to pay the credit card fees. If you donate $100, they are going to give us an extra $100.”

Roberts said that if the goal of $5,000 in donations is met, then the $5,000 in matching funds will be used to get 200 owned animals spayed and neutered.

He went on to say that the special program will allow pet owners to get a pet spayed or neutered for a short time for only $20.

According to Roberts, the goal is to cut down on the number of unwanted puppies and kittens born in Stephens County.

He said that each year 2,000 unwanted dogs and cats come into the shelter and the best way to lower this number is to get animals spayed or neutered.

“It is really a great opportunity to get local animals spayed or neutered,” said Roberts.

Donations can be made by going online to www.tschs.org and clicking on the matching grant link or call the shelter at 706-282-3275 for more details.
