Hot Weather Moving In

The hottest weather of the year so far is headed to Stephens County and northeast Georgia.

Temperatures in the 90s are forecast throughout the weekend with no rain and lots of sunshine.

This weather hits as Stephens County and north Georgia is in drought conditions.

According to the U.S. Drought Monitor, all of northeast Georgia is in moderate drought at the current time.

In downtown Toccoa, we have received 19.28 inches of rain to date.

At this time last year, 23.06 inches of rain had fallen in downtown Toccoa.

With hot weather moving in, officials have a number of tips to try and reduce the risks associated with the heat.

Tips from the National Weather Service include:

• Trying to reduce activity until the coolest times of the day
• Wearing lightweight, loose-fitting clothing
• Drinking plenty of water and non-alcoholic and decaffeinated fluids
• Spending time in air conditioned locations
• Taking a cool bath or shower
• Making sure rooms are well-vented
• Checking on the elderly
