Holiday Travel Numbers Updated By GSP

Final holiday traffic numbers are not in yet for Georgia highways from the state’s Department of Public Safety.

As of this morning, the last update from state officials regarding highway fatalities was at noon on Sunday.

State officials have reported that as of noon on Sunday, 17 people had been killed on Georgia highways over the Thanksgiving holiday period.

None of those fatalities, however, have taken place in the Toccoa or Hartwell posts of the Georgia State Patrol that cover this area.

The official statewide Thanksgiving holiday travel period for law enforcement ran from 6 p.m. Wednesday through midnight Sunday, a total of 102 hours.

Last year, during a similar 102-hour Thanksgiving holiday travel period, state troopers investigated hundreds of crashes that resulted in nine fatalities.
