High Speed Motorcycle Chase Ends at Hwy 145 and Toccoa By-Pass

A high speed pursuit of a stolen motorcycle that began in Habersham County ended on the Toccoa By-Pass at Hwy 145 when Stephens County Deputies and Sheriff Randy Shirley accomplished a rolling roadblock. The incident occurred Friday night about dusk.

Stephens County law enforcement joined the chase, which exceeded speeds of 110 miles per hour, at the Stephens County line and initially set up a road block at the intersection of Hwy 106 and the By-pass. The motorcyclist managed to maneuver around the units and continued driving at a high rate of speed in oncoming lanes at dusk with no lights on.

The rolling road block finally caused the motorcyclist to lose control of the vehicle at the intersection of Hwy 145 and the By-pass. The suspect jumped off and ran but was captured after a brief struggle with officers in a wooded area.

Habersham authorities have numerous felony traffic charges against the driver as well as the theft of the motorcycle. The Georgia State Patrol will bring charges in Stephens County. The suspect had apparently minor injuries from the accident and was taken by EMS to Habersham Medical Center for treatment.
