Hart Co. BOC Gives DA’s Office New Space

Northern Judicial Circuit District Attorney Parks White and his staff are finally getting the new offices he has been asking for.

At its regular meeting held recently, the Hart County Board of Commissioners voted to move the DA’s office to the Suite D offices on Cade Street across from the old Hart County Hospital.

That is according to Hart County Administrator Jon Caime.

“Suite D was office space we had reserved for the Tax Commissioner because we thought it would be an ideal location for him and his staff since it is next to the Tax Assessors office, but he (Tax Commissioner) doesn’t want to move there (from the Courthouse),” Caime said. “Meanwhile, there’s been issues with the District Attorney’s office and we’ve been addressing those issues, but we decided to just go ahead and let them occupy Suite D. So, they’re going to move their offices there.”

In March, Hart County temporarily closed the old offices on Carolina Street which had been housed in Hart County’s original Sheriff’s Office and Jail because of peeling lead paint and other toxins in the building that made it unsafe.

However, the offices were later re-opened and the DA and his staff remained there.

White said the issues in the 100-year old building were so severe, he and his staff had to wear face masks when working in the building.

Caime said they are now getting the new offices ready for the DA and his staff.

“We’re already rocking and rolling right now,” Caime said Tuesday. “Terrell Partain is managing the work that needs to be done in order to get them (DA) moved out there. We’re hoping within the next four weeks or so the space will be ready for them to occupy.”

In addition to new offices, the suite will also contain space to store case files.

White said he is excited to be moving to the new office space and grateful to the Hart County Board of Commissioners.
