Harkness Pleads to Lesser Charges

An area attorney with an office in Toccoa enters a plea agreement in Habersham County Superior Court.

According to information provided by the Habersham County Clerk of Court’s Office, Jerry Bruce Harkness, Sr. of Demorest pleaded guilty to three misdemeanor counts of reckless conduct recently.

Under the terms of the plea agreement, Harkness was sentenced to 45 days of house arrest, 40 hours of community service, and will also serve probation. According to accessnorthga.com, the probation is for a period of two years.

In addition, the Clerk of Court’s Office in Habersham County stated that Harkness also agreed to a fourth amendment waiver as part of the guilty plea.

Habersham County authorities arrested Harkness back in January and charged him with six felony counts of distributing a Schedule Two controlled substance and six felony counts of use of a communications facility to commit a felony.

Arrest warrants stated that the incidents occurred between November 20 and November 28, 2012, with five of the six incidents cited in the arrest warrants occurring at Harkness’ law office in Demorest, with the sixth taking place at a fast food restaurant parking lot in Cornelia.
