Habersham Co. Traffic Stop Leads to Two Arrests

A traffic stop in Habersham County leads to two drug arrests.

This past Saturday, Habersham County Sheriff’s Office deputies and Appalachian Regional Drug Enforcement Office agents intercepted a delivery of suspected methamphetamine.

The drug task force said that just after midnight on Saturday, Habersham County deputies observed a 2006 Infiniti G35 on Georgia Highway 365 North.

According to drug agents, the deputies executed a traffic stop of the car due to the driver traveling at a high rate of speed and for failure to maintain his lane.

Authorities said further investigation resulted in the discovery of approximately one pound of suspected methamphetamine, a semi-automatic handgun, and Roxycontin.

The estimated street value of the narcotics is $16,000.

Agents arrested 25-year-old Deontae Thomas of Riverdale, Georgia and charged him with DUI, Failure to maintain lane, Trafficking Methamphetamine, Possession of a schedule II narcotic, and Possession of a firearm during a crime.

Agents also arrested the passenger, 37-year-old Naomi Barrimond of Stockbridge, Georgia and charged her with Trafficking Methamphetamine, Possession of a schedule II narcotic, and Possession of a firearm by a convicted felon.

The investigation continues.
