GSP Releases Final Holiday Traffic Stats

The final traffic numbers are in for the Labor Day travel weekend on Georgia highways.

According to the Georgia Department of Public Safety, 13 people were killed on Georgia highways over the 78-hour holiday period.

That travel period started at 6 p.m. Friday and ended at midnight Monday.

One of those traffic fatalities was in the Toccoa post coverage area of the Georgia State Patrol, in Habersham County, on Sunday afternoon.

The Toccoa post of the Georgia State Patrol said that a silver Toyota 4 Runner was headed south on Georgia Highway 365 in the left lane negotiating a right curve when the driver, 28-year-old Jordan Frankum of Habersham County, allowed the vehicle to travel onto the edge of the roadway where she oversteered to the right.

Troopers said that the vehicle then traveled back into the left lane and the driver oversteered back to the left losing control.

According to the GSP, the vehicle then spun, left the roadway, struck a drainage culvert, overturned, and crossed the median and the northbound lanes of Highway 365 before coming to rest on the shoulder of the road.

The GSP said Frankum, who has also been identified as Jordan Frankum Rineheart, died from injuries suffered in the crash and her 9-year-old daughter sustained serious injuries and was taken to Children’s Healthcare of Atlanta.
