Grand Jury Issues Murder Indictments

A Stephens County grand jury has issued a new indictment in the Tomas Colbert murder case.

This week, the grand jury re-indicted Marqkeela Lawain Hill of Douglasville in the Colbert murder, adding more charges.

Also, the grand jury has indicted a second individual in the case, identified in court documents as William Demetrius McElveen.

Both were indicted on charges of Malice Murder, Felony Murder, Aggravated Assault, and Possession of a Firearm by a Convicted Felon, along with the new charges, Conspiracy to Commit Murder and Conspiracy to Commit Aggravated Assault.

Hill allegedly shot the 21-year-old Colbert at a Falls Road apartment in the early morning hours of February 7, 2016. Colbert died later at Greenville Memorial Hospital as a result of several gunshot wounds to his body.

The new indictment alleges that McElveen contacted Hill by telephone and Hill then traveled from Douglas County to Stephens County and the two met at a location in Toccoa prior to the shooting.

Then, the indictment states that within minutes after the shooting, Hill sent a text message to McElveen reading “game over.”

Meanwhile, a third man was indicted by the grand jury this week on murder charges in a separate case in Stephens County.

The grand jury indicted Gary Lamar Patrick of Toccoa on charges of Malice Murder, Felony Murder, Aggravated Assault, and Possession of a Firearm During the Commission of a Felony.

Patrick is accused of shooting and killing Robert Gary Hiott of Toccoa during an argument at a Patrick Lane residence on February 21, 2016.
