The Stephens County Commission officially welcomes its newest member.
New Stephens County Commissioner Michelle Grafton attended her first meeting as a county commissioner on Tuesday morning.
Grafton was elected last month to serve through December 31 to complete the term of the late Harold Andrews, who passed away last Fall.
She takes the place of J.B. Hudgins, who was appointed to serve as a county commissioner on an interim basis for Andrews’ seat until the special election that Grafton won took place.
County commissioners welcomed Grafton to the board.
She was appointed to serve as a representative for the county commission on two boards for the next eight months.
One is the Toccoa-Stephens County Humane Shelter Board, which Commission Chairman Dean Scarborough had been serving on in Andrews’ place.
The other is the Toccoa-Stephens County Chamber of Commerce Board, for which Commissioner Debbie Whitlock also serves as a county commission representative.
