Georgia Marks National Preparedness Month

September is National Preparedness Month and Georgia Insurance Commissioner Ralph Hudgens is encouraging the state’s residents to take the necessary steps to ensure protection for their family and property in the event of a disaster.

The 2016 theme for National Preparedness Month is “Don’t Wait, Communicate. Make Your Emergency Plan Today.”

Hudgens said Georgians who develop an emergency plan can help make their recovery process a little easier by following a few simple tips.

First, he said to prepare for the worst by identifying storm shelters and preparing evacuation plans in case of an emergency.

Second, Hudgens said people should take an inventory of their property with current photos or videos.

Third, Hudgens said people should review their insurance coverage to find what is covered and what is not.

Commissioner Hudgens also encouraged Georgians to visit www.ready.ga.gov to learn more about the risks facing their communities.
