GDOT Updates Hwy. 17 Timeline

The Georgia Department of Transportation is moving up the timeline for the projected completion of the entire Georgia Highway 17 widening project.

Friday, a DOT Spokesperson sent an e-mail update on the project.

In that e-mail, DOT Spokesperson Katina Lear said the southern end of the Highway 17 project, between Scott Road and the Franklin County line, is now expected to be done in the late Summer or early Fall.

Last month, the DOT had put that projected completion date in late Fall.

Lear said overall, significant progress has been made over the last past few months of the project due to the good weather.

Meanwhile, the northern end of the 17 widening project, between Scott Road and Memorial Drive, is still projected to be complete next month.

The entire Highway 17 widening project had been originally scheduled for completion this month.

However, the DOT said the project has been delayed due to the weather.

When it is complete, Georgia Highway 17 will be a four-lane highway all the way between Memorial Drive in Toccoa and the Franklin County-Stephens County line.
