GDOT Ready For Winter Weather

Meanwhile, road crews with the Georgia Department of Transportation are getting ready for the winter weather.

Georgia DOT Spokesperson Teri Pope said that crews are out scouting the roads and getting ready.

She said more crews will be called in as soon as precipitation starts.

“Our priorities are to work on interstates and multi-lane state routes first,” said Pope. “Then, we will go down to two-lane state routes.”

Pope went on to say that the DOT is hopeful that any winter weather will come in the form of snow, as opposed to ice.

“It is easier to remove off of the roadway and it is a lot easier to work with than trying to scrape ice off of the roadway,” said Pope.

The Georgia DOT is asking motorists to limit driving to emergencies or essential travel only.

If traveling, officials ask motorists to be patient, be mindful, and be careful.

Pope reminded motorists that they can always call 511 for real-time traffic information across the state on interstates and major state routes.

That is a free call in Georgia.
