Ga. Power Offers Storm Safety Tips

With summer thunderstorms popping up in the region on a regular basis, Georgia Power is offering some storm tips to help keep people safe this summer.

Tips from Georgia Power include never touching any downed wire or low hanging wire, including telephone or TV wires that touch a power line, or never pulling tree limbs off of power lines yourself.

Also, Georgia Power said to never go into areas with debris or downed trees, explaining that downed power lines may be buried in wreckage.

The company said people should never try to make their own electrical repairs to power company equipment.

Meanwhile, Georgia Power said that before a storm, people should consider turning off air conditioners to avoid a power surge overloading them, avoiding landline telephones, and unplugging unnecessary electrical appliances as telephone lines and metal pipes conduct electricity.

Finally, Georgia Power said people who are driving following a storm should watch for power crews working along the roadways and obey all traffic signs and directions around work areas.
