Ga. DOT Approves Local Bridge Project

The Georgia Department of Transportation said that a Stephens County bridge project is among those that the department awarded earlier this month.

Georgia DOT officials said that the department has awarded the construction of a bridge and approaches along State Route 184, or Prather Bridge Road, over Toccoa Creek.

According to the DOT, the project totals about .15 of a mile in length.

Officials said that the Stephens County bridge project, along with one in Banks County along State Route 98, are being funded through bridge bonds.

The DOT said that since the legislature appropriated $100 million in bridge bonds in last year’s session, 23 bridge bond projects have been awarded.

Overall, the DOT awarded 35 contracts this month for statewide construction projects totaling $88.5 million.

According to DOT officials, the contracts include 18 resurfacing projects valued at over $52 million, and 11 bridge projects valued at $24.7 million.

DOT officials said that information on schedules, lane closures and detours will be made available in advance of construction activities.
