Funeral Today for Franklin Co. Teen Killed in Saturday Wreck

November 14, 2013

Funeral services are set for today for a teenager killed last weekend in an accident in Franklin County.

17-year-old Matthew Walters will be laid to rest today.

Services will be at 2 p.m. today at TomsCreekBaptistChurch.

Walters passed away after a one-vehicle accident Saturday on State Route 63.

Franklin County Sheriff Stevie Thomas said that Walters was driving down State Route 63 near his home Saturday when his vehicle suddenly left the road and hit a tree.

Walters was life-flighted to Greenville Memorial Hospital where he later died of his injuries.

Thomas said witnesses driving behind Walters’ vehicle told authorities he did not appear to make any attempt to stop or avoid going off the road.

Walters was known for his athletic ability as a Franklin County Lion.

He played a number of different positions for the team on both offense and defense.
