Services for Stephens County Commissioner Harold Andrews are set for tomorrow.
Funeral services for Andrews will take place at 2 p.m. tomorrow at the Chapel of Whitlock Mortuary with interment to follow in Stephens Memorial Gardens.
Andrews passed away Wednesday at the age of 81.
He was in his second term as a Stephens County Commissioner.
According to officials, the county charter calls for the probate judge to appoint someone to fill Andrews’ seat until a special election can be held.
Stephens County Probate Judge Glenda Ernest says she is discussing the matter with the county attorney, adding she will have more information after next week.
Anyone appointed would likely serve through March, which is when Stephens County Registrar Theresa Kelley says state law would next allow the county to hold a special election to fill Andrews’ seat for the remainder of his unexpired term.
Andrews’ term runs through December 31, 2014.
The seat would then go on the general election ballot next year as it was already scheduled to do in order to elect someone to a full four-year term on the county commission.
