The Franklin County School Board’s search for a new school superintendent sends them far and wide only to bring them back home to a local candidate.

On Tuesday evening in a special called meeting, Franklin County School Board Chair Joe Greene asked for a motion to announced the Board’s finalist.

That choice, by a unanimous vote, was Wayne Randall.

After the vote, Randall thanked the board and said he is grateful for the opportunity to serve the citizens and students as the new school superintendent in Franklin County.

Randall currently serves as the Assistant Superintendent for College and Career Readiness with the Franklin County School System.

Prior to that, he was the principal at Franklin County High School from 2009 to 2013.

Randall is from Franklin County and a graduate of Franklin County High School.

He said he plans to spend his first weeks and months as Superintendent getting the lay of the land.

“I think an important piece of the transition is making sure we kind of stay the course for a little while, then evaluate where we are, talk to our administrators and our teachers and see what they say about the process and how things are going and then make adjustments as we see the need for those.”

Randall begins his new role as Franklin County School Superintendent on June 1.

He succeeds Dr. Ruth O’Dell, who is retiring at the end of this school year.
