Franklin County Commissioners will soon begin work on their Fiscal Year 2015 budget.

However, Franklin County Manager John Phillips said that before work on the budget begins, he needed to know how the budget process should be handled.

Franklin County Commission Chair Thomas Bridges said he liked the way the process evolved last spring in which the board heard from department heads and constitutional officers regarding their respective budgets and what they felt they would need in the new fiscal year.

Commissioner Jeff Jacques agreed, but said he also would like to have some additional budget reports from the current budget year to evaluate.

Phillips said he should have that information for the commission next month.

The Franklin County Commission then asked for Phillips and the county clerk to review initial departmental budgets and then submit them to the board for review.

Franklin County’s fiscal year begins July 1.
