Franklin Co. Poultry Farmer Killed in Apparent Farming Accident

June 13, 2014

A Franklin County poultry farmer is dead after an apparent farming accident.

The Franklin County Citizen-Leader reported Thursday that 47-year-old Andrew Lalumia of North Canal Bridge Road in Eastanollee died of injuries apparently sustained in an accident with a hay baler on Tuesday.

North Canal Bridge Road is located just over the Stephens-Franklin County line in Franklin County, off of Ridgeland Road.

Franklin County Sheriff’s Office Investigator Jimmy LeCroy told the Citizen-Leader that Franklin County 911 received a call Tuesday at about 3:15 p.m. about a person entrapped in a hay baler located on the farming property.

LeCroy went on to tell the Citizen-Leader that emergency services responded and found the victim entrapped in the hay baler, deceased, with the equipment still in operation.

According to LeCroy’s report in the Citizen-Leader, Lalumia had apparently become entangled in the belt drive system of the baler.
