Four SCHS Wrestlers Onto States

Four Stephens County High School wrestlers will head to this week’s state AAAA wrestling tournament.

This past weekend, the Indian Wrestling team had five wrestlers participate in the sectional wrestling tournament at West Laurens High School.

At the sectionals, 16 wrestlers from four regions compete in each weight class, with the top eight at each weight class advancing to states.

Finishing in fourth place to advance to states representing Stephens County High School were Javon Jones at 126 pounds and Jake Murray at 138 pounds.

Also moving onto states with seventh place finishes were Corey Kindel at 132 pounds and Jay Stowe at 145 pounds.

The fifth Indian wrestler to participate at sectionals was Dylan Defoor.

The four Indians who qualified will now wrestle starting on Thursday at the state meet at the Gwinnett Arena.

Stephens County High School Head Wrestling Coach Rob Stowe said that this year’s total of four wrestlers heading to states matches the Indians’ performance from last year.
