Four Receive Money from Steve Stovall Music Scholarship Foundation

May 21, 2013

Four Stephens County High School band members will head to the University of Georgia this summer through an annual scholarship.

The Steve Stovall Music Scholarship Foundation awarded Caitlyn Holmer and Haven Beavers scholarships to attend the UGA Music Workshop this summer at Thursday’s annual Stephens County High School Symphonic Band Concert, held at the high school’s Tugaloo Center for the Performing Arts.

The foundation is also providing the two yet-to-be named drum majors for the upcoming marching band season scholarships to attend UGA’s Drum Major Camp this summer. Those drum majors will be announced at tonight’s band banquet.

This is the 37th year for the Steve Stovall Music Scholarship.

Scholarship Foundation Committee Member Brent Stovall said a lot of people put in a lot of effort to make the scholarships possible.

“Every single dime that comes into this goes straight back out into scholarships,” said Stovall. “Nobody is paid any amount of money to do this. It is all strictly donated time. I appreciate all of the businesses and people that help with this thing.”

Stovall also said that High School Band Director Scott Wilcher and Middle School Band Director Stephanie Sheriff both do a great job year in and year out with the band program in Stephens County.

The Steve Stovall Music Scholarship Foundation was established in memory of Steve Stovall, who was student conductor of the Stephens County High School band.
