Former SCHS Football Coach Walker Gets Call from Hall

May 30, 2014

Former Stephens County High School head football coach Rodney Walker will officially enter the Georgia Athletic Coaches Hall of Fame this weekend.

Induction ceremonies for Walker and the Rest of the Class of 2014 are this weekend in Dalton.

Current Stephens County High School Head Football Coach Frank Barden said Walker very much deserves the recognition.

“He coached my senior year up at Habersham Central and then I came back here and worked for him (at Stephens County),” said Barden, who will present Walker at the induction ceremony. “A great man, a great coach, but more important, a coach that had a huge impact on your life. Just a great friend.”

During his time at Stephens County, Walker went 78-23 and made the state championship game in 1988.

He also coached at Habersham Central, West Rome, Sandy Creek, Mary Persons, Gilmer, Cartersville, Peach County, and Villa Rica over his career in Georgia.

Over a 39-year career across the state, Walker compiled a total record of 300 wins, 141 losses, and three ties.
