Two food giveaways are scheduled for this week in Stephens County.
First, Martin Baptist Church is partnering with the Food Bank of Northeast Georgia to distribute free food to all qualifying residents of the Martin area of Stephens and Franklin counties today.
The distribution will take place from 2 to 4 p.m. today in the MartinBaptistChurch gym
Martin Baptist Church is located just north of the caution light in downtown Martin on the west side of Highway 17.
The event will take place rain or shine and food will be distributed on a first come, first serve basis.
Organizers said the participant’s signature on the form they sign at the food pantry will serve as proof of income and no other documents will be required.
Then Thursday, the mobile food pantry will be at the Toccoa First United Methodist Church parking lot on Tugalo Street in downtown Toccoa starting at 10 a.m. and lasting until the food is gone.
Food will be distributed on a first come, first serve basis.
Neighbors4Neighbors of Stephens County is organizing Thursday’s giveaway and says people will just have to drive in and sign a form to receive the free food.
Joining Thursday’s food giveaway will be the Georgia Mountains Regional Commission mobile training unit.
The mobile unit is an extension of the state’s one-stop workforce delivery system and will be at the First United Methodist Church parking lot from 10 a.m. to 2 p.m. on Thursday.
The Georgia Mountains Regional Commission said the mobile unit provides computer/Internet access that helps meet community needs in the areas of resume and cover letter development, online job searches, career interest assessments, skills testing, mock interview simulation, use of skill enhancing software, and exploration of training eligibility.
